ASYMMETRIC BOUNDARY LAYER FLOW ABOVE SAND RIPPLES UNDER PROGRESSIVE WAVES

[摘要] Boundary layer flow above sand ripples under both oscillatory flow and progressive waves is examined by two dimensional numerical simulation. The simulation shows the difference of the flow between under an oscillatory flow and progressive waves. The boundary layer flow under oscillatory flow is symmetric, on the other hand, the flow under progressive waves is asymmetric. The mechanism of the asymmetric flow is explained by the convection effects of progressive waves.
