ON THE GROWTH OF WATER WAVES BY TURBULENT WIND
[摘要] The growth of water waves by turbulent wind is studied on the basis of typical results of recent studies. It is shown that the energy input from wind to a spectral component is not much affected by the existence of the other spectral components, and the dimensionless growth rate 3/f is uniquely determined by u^/c if the friction velocity u* measured over the water surface is used for the analysis. It is also shown that steep monochromatic waves without wind action show very complicated spectrum, but, under the wind action, they tend to be a continuous spectrum which has a spectral peak near the frequency of the lower side band and satisfy the 3/2 power law.
