[摘要] The use of anatomically detailed (AD) dolls to identify the sexual abuse ofchildren is a controversial issue. Due to specific dilemmas concerning theuse thereof, the question arose as to whether using non-anatomicallydetailed dolls (NAD) could be as effective, or even more effective. Verylittle research in this regard has been conducted overseas, and to datenone has been done in South Africa. The objective of this study wastherefore firstly to determine the viability of the use of NAD-dolls inidentifying the sexual abuse of children. To achieve this objective theresponses of 38 (22 white and 16 black) sexually abused girls, and 36 (18white and 18 black) non-sexually abused girls to NAD-dolls, werecompared. Secondly, an attempt was made to produce cross-culturaldata, in other words the reactions of the white and black girls to the dollswere ascertained. In this case the responses of the sexually abused whitegirls and non-sexually abused white girls to the NAD dolls, were comparedto the responses of these girls' black counterparts. A chi-square analysisof the results could not show any statistically significant differences inrespect of either of the two objectives. However, according to a moredescriptive approach to the data, it became evident that certain tendenciesregarding the responses of sexually molested girls and non-sexuallymolested girls to the NAD-dolls did in fact exist.
