WAVE DIRECTION MEASUREMENT USING MARINE X BAND RADAR

[摘要] Spatial radar signals received by a conventional marine radar are digitized as a 8-bit word by means of an A/D converter. The numerical procedure is discussed to estimate the two-dimensional radar spectrum from a digitized radar image. Directional spectra of sea waves are also observed by a 3-component wave array. A comparison of the mean wave direction and period estimated from the radar spectrum with the results from the array spectrum shows that the developed data acquisition system and numerical procedure represent a reliable and very cost-effective means to observe the properties of sea waves.
