Evaluation of good governance policy implementation in the Xhariep District Municipality

[摘要] This study aims at evaluating the good governance policy implementation in theXhariep District Municipality. The key question of the study is: 'To what extent doesthe Xhariep district municipality policy implementation process promote goodgovernance?To answer this question, this research project focuses on the public participation,transparency and responsiveness of the municipality, and how these contribute to aneffective policy implementation process. This is important because one of themandates of local government in the post-apartheid era in South Africa is to promotelocal democracy through the participation of communities.The empirical findings of this research project reveal that Ward Committees areconfronted with a multitude of challenges where their functioning tends to becompromised. This has led this research to recommend the improvement of capacityamong Ward Committees as a way of enhancing public participation.
