A nitrate reductase activity in Rhodopseudomonas capsulata linked to electron transfer and generation of a membrane potential

[摘要]

We have isolated from a laboratory strain of Rhodopseudomonas capsulata a spontaneous mutant possessing a dissimilatory NO⁻ ₃ reductase activity. Reduction of NO⁻ ₃ under dark and anaerobic conditions generated a membrane potential, and was inhibited by rotenone, oxygen and illumination.
