Designing Accessible Technology-Enabled Reading Assessments: Recommendations from Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments
[摘要] There is a great need to ensure that innovativetechnology-enabled assessments are accessible for students with disabilities.This study examined the severity of accessibility challenges that students withvisual disabilities (ranging from low vision to complete blindness) wouldencounter in accessing prototype reading tasks from ETS’sCBAL research system (Cognitively-Based Assessments of, for, and asLearning). This focus group study involved presenting prototype tasks to sixteachers of students with visual impairments. The teachers (a) examined theprototype tasks, (b) evaluated the severity of accessibility problems thatwould be encountered by students having different primary methods for accessingtext (e.g., braille, audio, visual enhancement), and (c) offered suggestionsabout how to improve the accessibility of the tasks. The report summarizes theresults of this study and provides recommendations for improving theaccessibility of innovative reading tasks.
