The Meaning and Importance Attributed to Work for Visually Impaired People of the Metropolitan Area of Quebec
[摘要] Objective: This study aims to determine thesignificance that visually impaired people give to their work and to define theobstacles and facilitators related to their integration into the workforce.Methodology: 52 adults with a visual impairment in the census metropolitan area(CMA) of Quebec, Canada, participated in a study aiming to learn about theirprofessional trajectory, the meaning they give to work, and the perceivedinfluence of the social and physical factors of their environment. Results: Theanalysis shows that it is important for work to be stimulating and for it toallow self-realisation. The respondents assert that work is an activity whichis not accessible to all, but which still permits autonomy. Technical help andtechnology are considered facilitators to work integration, while limitedaccess to information, the attitude of colleagues and employers, and thedifficulty of adapting to the labor market are seen as obstacles. Conclusion:Results show the importance of sensitizing employers and the work environmentto the reality of visually impaired people to foster their integration in anoptimal manner.
