Thin webbed concrete members, such as single and double T beams, are commonly used in prestressed concrete construction. As in the case of other flexural members, these beams need to be reinforced with an appropriate amount of shear reinforcement to control diagonal tension cracking and to prevent shear failure. However, since these members have narrow webs, the use of conventional closed loop stirrups is inconvenient and uneconomical.
