This paper presents a design method for determining the strength of horizontal connections in large panel concrete structures under vertical load. The method is based on results of tests conducted on full-scale specimens representing both interior and exterior connections. Controlled test variables were strength of grout in the connection, amount of transverse wall reinforcement, filled or unfilled slab cores, and slab end rotation due to floor moment. Test results are compared with those obtained by using the proposed design method and current PCI methods. A design example is included to illustrate the use of the proposed method.
