A simplified method for analyzing partially prestressed concrete sections is presented. Cardan's formula is applied to find an exact solution of the third degree equation. The results are expressed in the form f formulas, which can be used effectively with hand-held, non-programmable calculators. A flowchart and a simple computer program are also presented. Using a design example, derived numerical results are compared with existing iterative methods.
