This note analyzes the effect AASHTO's new 1980 specifications will have on designing prestressed concrete girders for shear reinforcement. The new provisions are essentially the same as those in ACI 318-77, the proposed Ontario Highway Bridge Design Code, and the Canadian Standards Association Bridge Code. To study the effect of these provisions on shear reinforcing requirements in simple span girders, an existing computer program was expanded to include the 1980 revision. Then several computer runs on typical sections were made. The results are tabulated and conclusions are drawn.
