The results of an experimental and analytical investigation of the transfer length of 0.5 and 0.6 in. (13 and 15 mm) diameter prestressing strands in full scale AASHTO girders are presented. Based on the results, it is concluded that the current provisions of the ACI Code and AASHTO Specifications for transfer length appear to be inadequate. Recommendations for changes to the code provisions and specifications are presented.
