The behavior of reinforced and prestressed concrete columns is first reviewed pointing out the differences in response between these two types of members. Various approaches to the design of slenders columns are given with comments on their applicability to prestressed columns. The British Code of Practice and ACI Code method are discussed in detail with respect to slenderness and moment magnification. A method is proposed (with recommendations) by which the ACI Code method can be modified and applied to the design of prestressed concrete columns.
