A new and novel prestressed segmental concrete bridge is nearing completion between the mainland of Kuwait and the Island of Bubiyan. The superstructure is an externally post-tensioned concrete segmental three-dimensional space frame truss. This paper documents the significant aspects of the project development; review and evaluation of turnkey proposals; design, fabrication and erection of the superstructure; and model testing of the superstructure. The Bubiyan Bridge project represents a significant step forward in the state-of-the-art of precast prestressed segmental bridge construction.
