Challenges to the efficient implementation of expanded Public Works programme projects in the North West Province
[摘要] The purpose of the study was to investigate the challenges to the efficient implementation of the Expanded Public Works Programmes (EPWP) project in the North West Province. The main aim of EPWP is to alleviate poverty and create temporary job creation opportunities for disabled persons, women and youth. The literature provided a review on investigated challenges. In this study, 100 employees from different sections were sampled and a questionnaire administered to them. The data was collected through use of self -adminstered questionnaires to EPWP beneficiaries within the North West Province: Mahikeng. The quantitative method was used to analyse the responses to the research questions of this study. A non-random sampling technique was used as a probabillity sampling method to collect data. The responses collected from the particpants was used as the primary source of data. A descriptive statistics tool, Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS), was used to analyse the data. The study provided further insight about the challenges affecting EPWP, poor implementation, reviewing existing policies and crafting of communication strategy. The major research findings were that the EPWP had improved beneficiaries career opportunities. It highlighted the need for training, monitoring and evaluation of implementation, developing new policies, crafting a communication strategy and allocating resources according to the specifications for each project. The results indicated that improvements need to be put in place for the smooth implementation and monitoring and evaluation of the EPWP. Recommendations are made to the Department of Public Works and Roads and all three spheres of Government.
