AN EFFECT OF PROGESTERONE ON ESTROGEN-INDUCED HYPERCALCEMIA IN THE SEXUALLY IMMATURE PULLET
[摘要] Sexually immature crossbred pullets were given daily intramuscular injections of 0.5 mgm. estradiol benzoate (ODB) for 14 days. Food intake was kept uniform as between pullets. Concurrent administration of 0.025 mgm., 0 05 mgm. or 0.10 mgm. progesterone (PGST) did not affect the hypercalcemia induced by the ODB, although these levels of PGS Taugmented the increase of oviduct weight induced by the estrogen. Administration of 0.5 mgm. PGST was found to augment significantly the hypercalcemia, but did not modify the increase of oviduct weight induced by estrogen. In a second similar experiment the hypercalcemia induced by 0.5 mgm ODB daily for 14 days was not affected by 0.05 mgm. or 0.10 mgm. PGST daily, although these levels of PGST augmented significantly the estrogen-induced increase of oviduct weight. Administration of 0.50 mgm. PGST daily increased the estrogen-induced hypercalcemia significantly but an increase with 1.0 mgm. PGST attained significance only at P?=?0.10. As the dosage of PGST increased, oviduct weight increased to a maximum and then declined.
