[摘要] There can be no doubt as to the importance and necessityof controlling as management function of the school principal. Control ensures the execution of the other managementfunctions, namely planning, organising and leading.The principal whose controlling is based on scripturalfundamentals will stand in the light of creation, fallof man and His salvation. Consequently controlling shouldbe subserviant to the will of God, which should not beneglected.When God first created man, He commanded them to fill theearth and subdue it; and have domonion over all the earth(Gen. 1:28). Therefore controlling is bound by the orderof creation - in other words, man was given the responsibility to maintain this order of creation. The aforementionedtogether with the assumption that controlling is influencedby the study of creation, man and society, controlling canbe defined as that behavior exercised by authority in anorderly manner so as to assess compliance with His principles.The controlling concept is extremely extensive, embracing manyfacets such as principles and essentials for controlling,timing of controlling, means of controlling and how controlling must be implemented. Therefore school principals mustbe suitably trained in the necessary skills to ensure efficient controlling.A study of publications in the field of education as well asbusiness reveals almost as many differing formulae as authors.In his formula the writer is of the opinion that the firstthree steps in controlling, namely setting standards, observation and measurement of activities, evaluation of achievements, are only of value if, in the event of deviation, theylead to the fourth step, which is corrective action. Corrective action implies that the principal, if necessary, shouldrenew his planning, organising and leading, so that the objectives and goals of planning and controlling standards can be accomplished.The principal has undoubtedly a key role in the implementation and achievement of a suitable controlling system for each individual school. Effective controlling can aid inbuilding the future of a nation of Gods people.
