Musical iconography of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries of the Netherlands and France, and its significance for the Cape of Good Hope

[摘要] The aim of this study is to examine musical life in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries as depicted by pictorial art. I shall attempt to pick up the thread in the Netherlands and France, and then to trace its influence on the contemporary society at the Cape. I shall concentrate on the Netherlands and France because they were two countries which greatly influenced the new community at the Cape.
