TRANSDUCTION OF DRUG-RESISTANCE IN STAPHYLO COCCUS. I. TRANSDUCTION OF TETRACYCLINE- AND ERYTHROMYCIN-RESISTANCES IN STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS BY TYPING PHAGES 80 AND 81
[摘要] Using typing phages 80 and 81, transductions of tetracycline- and erythromycin-resistances in Staphylococcus aureus were investigated and the following results were obtained:1) Tetracycline-resistance was transduced to about 50-70% of those strains belonging to phage types of group I or III with the aid of typing phages 80 and 81. Many of the strains which belonged to phage types of group II or the non-typable group were not transduced.2) In the experiment on transduction of erythromycin-resistance, about 10-17% of the 160 test strains of Staph. aureus were competent recipients of this marker. No distinct relationship was found between the phage types and the competence of the test strains to serve as recipients of the EM-marker.
