[ HARVEST ] The insect:an experimental biotic platform for species interaction, research and production
[摘要] The study contemplates the idea that, as modernman lives and thrives on Earth, we cannot lookwith anticipation into the future alone, but wehave to integrate our every action with the past.Maintaining a delicate balance between past andfuture is the major struggle and responsibility formankind. This is also the case for architecture, forit is one of the elemental ties to our past and toour future, because the buildings are the result ofhistory. It is these connections between past andfuture, building and user, building and site, userand the natural site, which shape the spaces wedwell in.The intention of the study is to createarchitecture which promotes harmony withinthese connections between human habitation(future) and the natural world (past), throughdesign approaches so sympathetic and wellintegrated with its site that buildings, furnishings, and the natural surroundingsbecome part of a unified, interrelatedcomposition. The selected project is a production facility with afly factory and integrated urban insectary, endangered insect containment research facility, harvesting a natural ecosystem on the oldRosema & Klaver Waterkloof Quarry site inMonument Park, South Africa.
