Economic impact of HIV and AIDS on the business process outsourcing and offshore contact centre industry in South africa
[摘要] ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Profitable organisations depend, not only on a healthy workforce, but also on an environmentconducive to creating wealth and long-term economic growth. The private sector plays a key rolein fighting the negative economic impact of HIV and AIDS. Companies in South Africa affectedby HIV and AIDS have to compete in global markets where their bottom line could be directly andindirectly affected due to the complexities of compounding factors in managing profitable businessoperations. The South African Business Process Outsourcing and Offshoring (BPO&O CC)1 sector is noexception. The BPO&O CC sector, like any other business sector, needs business enabling factorssuch as transparency, well-educated employees, low interest rates and favourable operatingconditions to enable them to compete against global competitors. It makes good business sense tothe BPO&O CC sector to respond to the epidemic because of the direct impact of HIV and AIDS onthe sector resulting from increased costs, loss of productivity and overall threats to the foundationsof economies in which companies within the BPO&O CC sector operate. The current and future workforce is placed at an increasingly high risk as the epidemicdisproportionately affects people during their most productive years. In this context, it seemsimportant to understand how HIV/AIDS could potentially have a devastating economical impact onthe BPO&O CC sector, and what could be done to mitigate the possible economic impact of HIVand AIDS on the BPO&O CC sector.
