A cognitive conceptualization of depression in adults with diabetes mellitus
[摘要] ENGLISH ABSTRACT:Individuals diagnosed with diabetes mellitus are at an increased risk fordeveloping depression. According to the literature, depression in diabetesmellitus has been associated with a poorer quality of life, poorer regimenadherence, poorer adjustment to diabetes, poorer glycaemic control, and anincreased risk of developing diabetes related complications. While the role ofcertain psychosocial determinants in the onset and maintenance of depressionhas been investigated, mental health professionals and researchers haveneglected the task of conceptualizing the relationship between depression anddiabetes from a psychological perspective. This assignment presents apsychological conceptualization of the relationship between diabetes anddepression, using Beck's (1967, 1979) cognitive model of depression as aframework. This conceptualization may serve as a means of theoreticallyunderstanding the relationship between these two conditions and as a frameworkin directing future research on this relationship.
