[摘要] ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This research focused on the correlation between career interest and personality aswell as making optimal use of psychometric data within a local context. The followingquestionnaires were used: Meyer-Interest Questionnaire (MB10) and the South -AfricanPersonality Questionnaire (SAPQ). The target population was the 1994 and 1995 firstyear students (N = 4348) who completed the first year orientation program. There werestatistically significant correlations between some of the interest fields as measured bythe MB10 and some of the personality dimensions as measured by the SAPQ. Howeverthese correlations were consistently low and there was not enough scientific evidence tomake any meaningful inferences about an individual's personality based on careerinterest or vice versa. The interest profiles of the different course groups differedsignificantly from one another. The same result was not found for the personality profilesof the different courses. The complexity of the relationship between personality andinterest makes further research on this issue necessary.
