Electromagnetic modelling of a borehole radar environment with the finite difference time domain method
[摘要] South Africa has an immensely rich reserve of minerals which still hasto be exploited. The problem with these reserves is that they exist inreefs where the mining environment is extremely hazardous, and wheremining is very expensive. These are only two of the reasons why boreholeradar has recently become a very important field of research in the SouthAfrican mining industry. These radars have to operate in rock, whichhas a number of electromagnetically problematic characteristics, whichgreatly complicate modelling and design of suitable radars. The goal ofthis project is to demonstrate how the Finite Difference Time Domain(FDTD) method may be used to electromagnetically model and simulateborehole radars and subterranean environments.
