The roar on the other side of silence : women and anger - a postmodern perspective
[摘要] ENGLISH ABSTRACT:Assuming a postmodern perspective, this literature study attempts to addressunprivileged dichotomies in an endeavour to make audible the silence surroundingwomen, emotion and anger. In alignment with the postmodern assumptions ofrelativity, the tracing of anger involves acknowledging the physiological, social, intrapersonal, interpersonal, behavioural, cognitive and phenomenologicalpropensities thereof. In a postmodern attempt to contextualise the discussion and totrace the relation of women and the female gender stereotype to anger, a selection ofetiological perspectives and theories on anger are viewed within the cultural contextsthereof. Juxtaposed in a Western culture privileging reason to emotion, individualityand autonomy to relationship centeredness, a hypothetical understanding of theassociation between women and emotion is construed. The gender stereotypicalerasure of anger from the female repertoire is also addressed. Integrating theseassumptions with the possible positive and negative outcomes of anger, apreliminary understanding of the mechanism of and the silence surrounding womenand anger is offered.
