[摘要] ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Policework is considered to be a career that has a broad psychological impact on the police officer. Thefocus of most studies regarding the subject has fallen on the traumatization experienced by the police officerdue to the nature of the job. The influence of intra-psychic factors on the life-and work functioning of theindividual is currently starting to generate more interest. This assignment proposes a research design thataims to determine whether a person's sence of coherence and the coping strategies he/she employs (intrapsychicfactors), and his/her work satisfaction are related. A further aim is to formulate a reliable structuralmodel that describes and predict the nature of the interaction between the three constructs. The sence ofcoherence, use of coping strategies and work satisfaction experienced by a representative group ofemployees of the South African Police Service in the Western Cape will be measured during a singlecrossectional survey. The data will be gathered with Antonovsky's Orientation to Life Questionnaire, theCOPE-questionnaire, the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire and a biographical questionnaire. It isproposed that structural equation modelling be used for the statistical analysis of the data. With thistechnique a structural model can be formulated that could offer explanations for individual differencesregarding stress management and work functioning and thus contribute to the optimalization of a person'slife and work functioning.
