[摘要] ENGLISH SUMMARY:The current process of transformation in South Africa makes thestudy of diversity in schools essential.Diversity in schools can be addressed by means of variousmanagement approaches. Management approaches can be divided intotwo categories, i.e. Assimilation and Pluralism. The assimilationapproach is aimed at ignoring all aspects of diversity andcausing learners to conform to a dominant culture . Pluralism isgrounded in the acknowledgement and promotion of diversity inschools. This research addresses the pluralistic approaches ofmulti-cultural and anti-rascist education. The concept culture forms the basis of multi-cultural teachingand it is therefore essential that a clear understanding isdeveloped of this concept. The stages in the development ofmulti-cultural education are of great importance, becausedifferent countries move from different motivational grounds intheir implementation of this form of education. Multi-culturaleducation aims at equal opportunities for all diverse groups inschools. This approach in education should also adhere to certainconditions to ensure success. Some of these conditions are asfollows: early integration, curriculum development and thedevelopment of values. Critics opposing multi-cultural educationstate that this approach would be insufficient if implemented on its own. For this reason the anti-rascist approach ineducation has also been researched in this study. In the study of the anti-rascist approach in education, it isessential to reach a clear understanding of concepts such asrascism, prejudice, discrimination and stereotyping. It is alsoessential that the various theories that describe thephilosophical and theoretical principles of anti-rascism beclearly understood. In this study the following theories wereused: conflict theory, resistance theory and the cognitivedevelopment theory. The aims of the anti-rascist approach aregrounded in the principles of equality and equity for all.Criticism of the anti-rascist approach points to the fact thatit should always be implemented in conjunction with anothereducation approach.By implementing a multi-cultural and anti-rascist approach toeducation, an opportunity is created to answer many criticismsagainst these approaches. Successful implementation of thecombined approach requires an approach that is more holistic innature and that a process needs to be followed.
