[摘要] ENGLISH ABSTRACT:In this study a learning program concerning local development is docurneneted and analised.The program involves Grade 11 learners of the Cape Metropolitan area.The aim is to investigate the use of environmental education for sustainability as an approachwhich offers opportunities for utilisation and development of skills and knowledge, thesebeing subject to problem-solving, decision-making, consensus and critical questioning tomake proposals that are evident of authentic insights.The investigation process consist of a brainstorming session, a three-day workshop and aconcluding session. The learning activities are based on tasks which offer pupils theopportunity to gather, analise, organise and evaluate information.The study describes similarities to outcome-based education.
