Commercial biodiesel production in South Africa : a preliminary economic feasibility study

[摘要] Biodiesel, a fatty acid alkyl ester, derived from the transesterfication of vegetable oil, isconsidered a renewable fuel that can be used as a replacement for fossil diesel. The urgencyfor biofuel production in South Africa is motivated by the vulnerability of crude oil prices,high unemployment, climate change concerns and the need for the growing economy to useits resources in a sustainable manner.The technical feasibility of biodiesel production has been proven and this study investigatesits preliminary economic feasibility in South Africa by looking at the market, financial andagricultural feasibility of commercial biodiesel production.
