Prognostic Judgment at Post-Surgery by Biochemical Parameters in Beef Cattlewith Left Displaced Abomasum

[摘要] References(9)Cited-By(1)We examined whether thepostoperative prognosis of beef cattle with left displaced abomasum (LDA) can be estimatedfrom changes in laboratory parameters. Preoperatively, beef cattle with LDA showedincreases in plasma glucose with decreased serum insulin in the glucose tolerance testcompared to non-LDA cattle. Postoperatively, the cattle with LDA were retrospectivelydivided into two groups, good and bad prognoses. Although plasma glucose concentrationssignificantly increased either pre- or postoperatively, no difference was noted betweenthe good and bad prognosis groups. Serum insulin concentrations in the bad prognosis groupsignificantly decreased, compared to those in the good prognosis group. These findingssuggest that beef cattle with LDA elicit disturbed glucose metabolite pre- andpostoperatively, and serum insulin levels may predict their prognoses after surgery.
