[摘要] ENGLISH SUMMARY: The main purpose of this study was to augment the existing body ofknowledge on the relationship between stress and injuries by including awider spectrum of psychological variables related to sports injuries and atthe same time attempt to elimininate the limitations of previous studies inthis area.A group of road runners (37 males and 7-females) was monitoredthroughout a season of competitive road running. A series ofquestionnaires was completed by the sample which investigated thefollowing variables: motives for participation, competitive anxiety, locus ofcontrol, neuroticism, introversion-extroversion, life events, daily hassles, illnesses and injuries. In contrast to findings of other studies no relationship was found betweenthe occurance of important life events and the prevalence ofillnesses/injuries. However, athletes who experienced a high incidence ofdaily stresses over the four-month investigation period were more proneto illness/injury than those athletes who reported fewer daily hassles. In addition, those athletes with higher scores on neuroticism andcompetitive anxiety were more susceptible to the effect of stress on theincidence of injuries. Although a positive relationship was found betweenneuroticism and external locus of control as well as daily hassles, thesetwo personality characteristics did not show a positive relationship withthe incidence of illnesses/injuries.The results of this study have practical implications regarding the copingskills of competitive sportspersons. The supportive function of the coach, team mates, family and friends is emphasised. Futhermore, the role of thesports psychologist in assisting sportspersons with the acquisition ofcoping skills is underlined.
