[摘要] ENGLISH ABSTRACT:One of the functions of the Social Work Department atTygerberg Hospital is to act as a training institutionfor the field practice education in social casework ofthird year students from the University of Stellenbosch.In order to fulfil this function in a scientific manner,the need for a comprehensive study into the rolefulfilment of field practice teachers was deemednecessary. The purpose of this research was to ensurethat the Department of Social Work at Tygerberg Hospitalcan provide a purposeful, efficient, time and costeffective program for field practice education to thethird year students of the University of Stellenbosch, asit is set out in the Memorandum for Field PracticeEducation for third year social work students.The literature study determined that the nature and goalsof field practice education of third year students havebeen developed according to a process of l earning throughwhich a student is being facilitated by a field practiceteacher to integrate theory and practice. As is the casewith the theoretical course, field practice education isa separate course within the curriculum of Social Work atthe University of Stellenbosch. The achievement of thegoals of the course in field practice education isdependant on the student being taught the necessaryknowledge, skills and attitude regarding the componentsof social work practice, as it is classified in the modelfor supervision . This model describes the variouslearning areas.The knowledge, skill and attitude requirements of fieldpractice teachers in the fulfilment of their role havealso been investigated. several aspects regarding therole fulfilment of field practice teachers have beendiscussed and the comprehensiveness of the requirements for field practice teachers is clearly shown. In fieldpractice education both the educational institution andthe field practice institution have certainresponsibilities. This situation could be described asan educational partnership for the purpose of fieldpractice education. To ensure that the program for fieldpractice education is being implemented succesfully, itis important that each party has clarity about his roleand responsibilities, and that all parties involvedremain in constant touch with each other.When a venue for field practice education is beingconsidered, there are three aspects that have to be takeninto account. They are : the professional preparation ofthe student, following through of the program of fieldeducation and the role fulfilment of the field practiceteacher. The venue where field practice education isbeing done has a definite effect on the outcome of thecourse. When field practice education is undertaken inthe hospital it must be taken into consideration that thehospital is a specialist organization, and that holdscertain restrictions for general experience in socialwork casework. Nevertheless it has been found that thehospital is suitable for the continuous field practiceeducation in social casework for the third year studentsof the University of Stellenbosch.The empirical investigation, which was done according tothe structured questionaire method, brought to lightinformation about the work experience and the number offield practice placements that were handled by the fieldpractice teacher s in Tygerberg Hospital. Field practiceteachers' experience of their role as practice teachers,as well as their needs for support in ways to develop thenecessary skills in field practice teaching, have beeninvestigated . The aspects that must be included in aneducational program for field practice teachers, theeffect of the nature of the hospital department as well as possible ways to reward field practice teachers, havealso been investigated. A number of general suggestionsabout the i mplementing of field practice education wasobtained from the field practice teachers.According to the findings of the empirical study, aprogram for field practice teaching in Tygerberg Hospitalhas been developed. If this program were to beimplemented, it should address the identifieddeficiencies in the structure of field practice teachingat Tygerberg Hospital.
