Knowledge, perceptions and attitudes of industrial class workers of Princess Marina Hospital in Gaberone toward routine HIV testing
[摘要] ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study, first of its kind in Princess Marina Hospital and conducted from 12th to 19th ofJanuary 2012, was aimed at determining the knowledge, attitudes and perception of routineHIV testing by the industrial class workers of Princess Marina Hospital.This study has shown that awareness of HIV and AIDS and HIV testing is universal in thestudy population. It has alsoshown that routine HIV testing is not practiced as it should be atthe staff clinic of Princess Marina Hospital. It has revealed that a significant number ofrespondents have knowledge gaps with regards to the transmission of HIV and this could leadto risky behaviors and the resulting spread of HIV. Voluntary Counseling and Testing Centresseem to be the preferred HIV testing places. The study has also determined that HIV testresults taking long, lack of confidentiality, fear of stigma and discrimination were the mostimportant reasons for not testing at Princess Marina Hospital. Appropriate measures need to betaken to correct identified gaps and ensure a successful implementation of routine HIV testingin order to strengthen the fight against HIV/AIDS at the workplace.
