Landboudorpe : 'n strategie vir die sosio-ekonomiese ontwikkeling van plaaswerkers

[摘要] ENGLISH ABSTRACT: South Africa has been undergoing a process of rapidurbanisation for some time. The consequence of thisurbanisation process, like uncontrolled squatting, isevident in the metropoles, cities and larger towns. Notwithstanding, conditions in most rural areas are evenworse. Continued research is therefore necessary for thedevelopment of strategies that will specifically addressthe problems and needs of rural areas and communities.Against this background farm worker communities have been identified as an important component of the rural population in need of better living conditions. As a solution the central farm village is proposed as a possible socio-economic development strategy for farmworkers.The theoretical and case studies that were undertakenindicate that the concept of a central farm village is aviable strategy not only for the socio-economic upliftmentof farm workers, but also as a means of controlledurbanisation.However, central farm villages cannot merely be developedin every region in South Africa. In this regard possibleconstraints were identified and a number of proposals weremade for implementation of the strategy.
