Seroprevalence of Sarcocystis spp. in a dairy herd in the municipality of Toca, Colombia
[摘要] The seroprevalence of Sarcocystis spp. in cattle of a dairy herd of the municipality of Toca, Colombia and its relationship with age, reproductive status and number of deliveries were determined using ELISA technique developed by the Colombian Foundation of Parasite Studies (FUNCEP). The sample was calculated with a confidence level of 95% in 100 animals for the conduction of this research. The prevalence of Sarcocystis spp. found in this study was of 64%. It was observed that the parasite could be present at any age, but with a higher number of individuals infected between the ages of 37 and 48 months (20.3%). The infection with Sarcocystis spp. could equally occur in empty or pregnant cows with no differences between them. However, a significant relationship was found between the seroprevalence of Sarcocystis spp. and the number of births, with higher values in cows with a single delivery (25%). It was recomended that, in future studies of sarcoporidiosis, to take into account the animal age and number of births.
