Risk factors associated with the Canine Parvovirus in Canton Guaranda, Bol铆var, Ecuador
[摘要] The objective of this work was to determine the risk factors associated with the occurrence of CPV in cross-bred dogs in the province of Bolívar, Ecuador. From a total sample of 2814 cross-bred dogs, positive or not to CPV, a case-control study was conducted by constructing 2x2 contingency tables. Association measures [odds ratio (OR), attributable fraction in exposed (FAE), fraction in population (FAP)] and the statistical difference by c² test were determined. The consumption of raw meat and bones, consumption of homemade foods, not well physical state, gastrointestinal parasites, no vaccination, summer and lack of confinement were significant factors of risk for CPC occurrence. The consumption of raw meat as a risk factor for the disease occurrence was distorted by the animal age, with differences between the ages (p=0,0238) and with no association between this factor and the disease once the age effect was controlled (p=0,0984). The logistic regression model explained 86.47% of the CPV cases. It was concluded that the risk factors associated with CPV in the territory in relation to feeding were consumption of raw meat, bones and homemade food, along with other factors like gastrointestinal parasites, not well physical state, no vaccination, season of the year, and no animal confinement.
