Patient flow and congestion in the out-patient department at Zithulele Hospital

[摘要] ENGLISH SUMMARY : This thesis considers the causes and effects of congestion in the out-patient department (OPD) at Zithulele hospital, a rural healthcare facility located in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. Detailed mathematical models are developed to analyse the flow of different types of patients through the OPD and evaluate strategies for reducing the negative effects of congestion. The OPD model is implemented as a decision support tool which can be used by hospital staff.
