The compositions of Priaulx Rainier : an annotated catalogue

[摘要] ENGLISH ABSTRACT:After having completed his D. Phil. dissertation on DieMusieklewe van Pietermaritzburg 1850-1902 in December1975 the author went on an overseas holiday - his firstre-visit to Europe after nine years. One of the findingsof his dissertation was, that although Pietermaritzburghad had quite an active musical life for a centre with itspopulation with concerts featuring prominent visitingmusicians and local artists, a flourishing music societyand in later years a borough-organist, there had actuallybeen no first rate resident composers. The existing compositionsof Reginald Statham , Alfred Day and otherswere more occasional pieces and did not really outlivethe occasion for which they were composed. Today they arevirtually unknown.
