Die invloed van 'n avontuurervaring op die selfkonsep van seuns uit verskillende sosio-ekonomiese omgewings
[摘要] ENGLISH SUMMARY: The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of a short (weekend)adventure experience on the self-concept of boys from different socio-economicbackgrounds.It is predicted that the short adventure experience will have a positive effect on theself-concept of the boys. It is also predicted that the short adventure experience willhave a greater influence on the low socio-economic group than on the high socioeconomicgroup. The sample for this study consisted out of 33 boys from two schools: CaravellePrimary (low socio-economic) and Eikestad Primary (high socio-economic) who tookpart in the two short camps presented to them. The self-concept was tested justbefore, directly after, one week and one month after the camp with the Piers-HarrisChildren's Self-Concept Scale (Piers, 1984).The results show that only the boys from the high socio-economic backgroundshowed a positive change in the self-concept after the short adventure experience. The boys from a low socio-economic environment did not show a significant changein the total self-concept, but there were improvements in some of the cluster scales.
