Symptoms Associated With Pertussis Are Insufficient to Rule In or Rule Out the Diagnosis

[摘要] We have some concerns about the systematic review and meta-analysis by Moore et al¹ assessing the diagnostic value of the clinical characteristics observed in adults and children with pertussis infection in a recent issue of CHEST (August 2017). The authors used broad inclusion criteria, specifically seeking studies reporting any clinical characteristic(s) that may be associated with pertussis infection. We performed a similar systematic review² but excluded studies that included young children (who may not have yet received primary vaccination) and those concerning outbreaks or active surveillance (because these patients may not be representative of those in usual clinical practice [ie, subject to spectrum bias]).
