Atrial Fibrillation and End-Stage COPD: A Close Association Revisited
[摘要] Both atrial fibrillation (AF) and COPD are major global contributors to health-care burden, and they often coexist because of their shared pathophysiology. The interrelationships between AF and COPD are complex. A study using the Spanish National Hospital Discharge Database found that COPD is a common comorbidity in patients hospitalized for AF.1 Although many patients with COPD have associated cardiovascular disease risk factors (eg, smoking) that may act as confounding factors, the presence of COPD and reduced lung function have been independently associated with the development of AF within the Atherosclerosis Risk in Community (ARIC) cohort study.
