The Curious Omission of Treatment as a Predictor of Pulmonary Sarcoidosis Mortality

[摘要] In a recent article in CHEST (January 2018), Kirkil et al¹ reported a sarcoidosis mortality of 8.4% in 452 tertiary care setting (TCS) subjects selected by available pulmonary function and imaging. These selected subjects exceeded, by 47%, TCS mortality (5.7%; range, 4.0%-7.6%) in unselected subjects. The latter is 10-fold that in nonreferral settings (NRS) (0.56%; range, 0%-0.8%) and sixfold after stage correction. Mortality distribution was bimodal (no intermediate values), not a 1% to 5% range.
