Is Big Tobacco Still Trying to Deceive the Public? This Is No Time to Rest on Our Laurels

[摘要] In 1999, the US Department of Justice sued several major US tobacco companies (United States v Philip Morris) for violating provisions of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act by colluding in making known false and deceptive statements to the public and to the government regarding (1) the risks of smoking, (2) the health effects of secondhand smoke, (3) the addictiveness of nicotine, (4) cigarettes marketed as low tar or light, and (5) the manipulation of the delivery of nicotine.
