Growing up in rural Missouri, his father taught him that “it was important to leave a mark on peoples’ lives in a positive way”; this principle has guided him throughout his career. While studying electrical engineering and physics at Tufts University, one of Jeff’s academic advisors, Dr Allan Cormack (1979 Nobel Prize winner), suggested that if he really wanted to make a difference, he should consider a career in medical research.
