Pleural Biopsy to Capture Causative Microbe: A New Piece of the Pleural Infection Jigsaw

[摘要] Pleural infection remains an everyday clinical challenge worldwide. Drainage of the infected material and administration of antibiotics are the cornerstones of treatment. Despite a lack of progress for centuries, since its first description by Hippocrates (460-377 bc ), exciting advances have recently emerged.¹ Novel ideas trialed in small cohorts have been integral to these developments. In 2000, CHEST published an exploratory study by Simpson et al² on the benefits of deoxyribonuclease in thinning pus from pleural (or joint) infections.
