Worrywart

[摘要] I grew up before NAMI came to church basements. Checked the beaters were unplugged a thousand times. Counted in Roman numerals to desperation. Undiagnosed with over and over. I stopped going to Girl Scouts in seventh grade. Didn’t understand what learned behavior was, or that collecting beer cans from Loon Lake could have distracted me from symptoms. I couldn’t write letters to gas ovens, shut them off at the valve, believe God was a hodgepodge of juncos and Canada geese. Age nineteen I ended up in the hospital, talking about fires and hotpots.
