Enlisting the Host to Fight TB

[摘要] Despite the availability of effective antibiotics since the 1950s, TB remains a leading cause of death from infection worldwide, surpassing HIV in 2015.¹ Currently, the minimum regimen for drug-sensitive TB is a 6-month short course of directly observed therapy. The requirement for prolonged treatment with multiple drugs to achieve cure, and the emergence of vulnerable patient populations and drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains, are major barriers to global TB elimination.² Disappointing results from treatment shortening trials³ highlight the need for novel interventions to cure TB.
