The Culpability of Respiratory Viruses in Pneumonia-Related Acute Respiratory Failure: The Jury Is Still Out
[摘要] We read with interest the study by Shorr and colleagues1 in this issue of CHEST investigating the causative role of viruses, particularly those displaying respiratory tropism (RVs), in community or hospital-acquired pneumonia requiring mechanical ventilation. The authors used a multiplexed nucleic acid amplification test-NAAT (FilmArray Respiratory panel) for virus detection (not isolation, as stated throughout the text) in a variety of clinical specimens including sputa, tracheal aspirates, and bronchoalveolar lavage fluids (the number of each sample type was not disclosed).
