Giants in Chest Medicine: Dirkje S. Postma, MD, PhD

[摘要] Figures Dirkje S. Postma, MD, PhD Dirkje Postma is a giant, and she is a woman! Because the gender part applies pretty close to 50% of “mankind,” this fact should hardly come as a statistical surprise. However, encountering this surprise has been the story of Dirkje’s early career. Her given Dutch name is the diminutive of a boy’s name, Dirk. Upon applying for her first internship, she was blatantly rejected when discovered to be a woman and married, and was therefore expected to have a caregiving vocation (husband and home). This was only 1979.
